FAQS

Why 128?

The number 128 represents the lot number of my families’ first home, the place where we first rooted ourselves in a community. 128 Financial was launched shortly after reflecting on Psalm 128, which echoes my personal prayer and hope for my family and clients’ families.

Should I file my own taxes or hire a CPA?

The IRS has a free file program that partners with tax preparation software companies to help taxpayers prepare and file their taxes for free.

If you’re a salaried employee who takes the standard deduction, your return is likely to be simple and using a free file program may make wise financial sense.

However, if you’ve encountered a major life change, own a vacation home or rental property, or have a business, your tax situation may be more complicated.

Working with a CPA is a personal choice that can help alleviate the burden of the constantly changing tax laws and reduce one’s risk of being audited by the IRS.

Do I need a CPA?

CPA stands for Certified Public Accountant, a title given to accountants that have passed a four-part credentialing exam in business, tax, and accounting principles.

While accountants can provide valuable tax services, all accountants are not CPAs. CPAs are regulated by the state and have to complete continuing education to keep up with changing accounting trends and developments. They are also allowed to prepare audited or reviewed financial statements, represent clients to the IRS, and file a report with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

How can a CPA help me with my business?

A CPA can provide valuable business insights, so you see the big picture as you start or grow your business. In addition to helping manage your financial information through bookkeeping and payroll, a CPA has the professional expertise to analyze this information and provide high-level financial management advice on decisions that affect business growth such as salary changes, new tax regulations, cash flow projections and forecasting, business entity structure decisions, and capital expenditures.
